Quest Health alternatives for a testosterone test

Quest Health sells lab tests that you buy online and give at a Quest location. For testosterone that is a walk-in lab test, the same model this site covers. So the choice is between two sellers of walk-in tests, not between a lab and a home kit.

Here is what Quest’s own pages said in October 2026, next to what a walk-in test from the seller we show offers.

Total testosterone

The lowest-priced test here that gives you a testosterone number.

What walk-in testing offers

A walk-in test is a blood draw at a lab, ordered online. MedlinePlus says most testosterone tests involve a blood draw in a medical setting, with a sample taken from a vein in your arm, and that this usually takes less than five minutes (MedlinePlus).

For the walk-in tests we show, the seller’s page says:

  • It is a simple blood draw. No urine sample, swab or physical exam is involved.
  • A general line, shared across many of its tests, says fasting is not required. Don’t read that as advice. The Endocrine Society guideline describes a fasting morning sample for diagnosis, so follow your lab order and see our fasting guide.
  • Results appear in your online account within one to three business days.
  • You pick the test: total only, free only, or both on one order.

Our guide to how walk-in labs work covers the steps from order to results.

More from the Quest pages, as of October 2026:

  • Quest says no doctor visit is needed to buy, and that an independent healthcare provider is involved throughout.
  • A conversation with an independent healthcare provider about your results is included with the purchase at no extra cost.
  • Quest lists more than 2,000 locations. Its pages say collection is not available in AZ, HI or PR.
  • Quest says tests bought on its site are for people paying directly. It does not bill insurance, and purchases cannot be submitted for insurance reimbursement.
  • Quest lists an Expanded men’s panel that adds estradiol and prolactin to the Basic panel.

When Quest Health suits you better

  • You want free testosterone with SHBG and albumin in one purchase. Quest’s Basic panel includes them. On this site, SHBG is a separate order, covered in our SHBG guide.
  • You want an included conversation about your results. Quest says it comes with the purchase.
  • You want the blood drawn at home. Quest Mobile does that where it is available, for an extra fee.
  • A Quest location is the closest or most convenient draw site for you, or you already use MyQuest.
  • The seller’s tests are not available where you live. Availability differs by state, so check each company’s page. Our page on where testing is unavailable lists the states the seller does not serve.

When a walk-in total testosterone test suits you better

  • You want the testosterone number and nothing else. Quest’s Testosterone Test also fits if total is all you want. A total test answers the usual first question. MedlinePlus calls it the most common type. A free test is less common and may help a provider look into certain conditions. For a free testosterone figure, see free vs total testosterone. A walk-in order can be free only, or free and total on one order.
  • You want the shortest results window on paper. The seller’s page says one to three business days. Quest’s says three to five business days.

The price of the walk-in total test is in the box on this page. The walk-in options are total only, free only, or both on one order:

Timing and preparation

Testosterone is usually measured on a morning sample. MedlinePlus says a provider will take the sample in the morning, between 7 and 10, when levels are typically highest. Quest also prefers a morning sample. Our guide to the best time to test goes into more detail.

MedlinePlus says that in certain cases you may need to fast before the test, and to ask your provider how to prepare. Because fasting instructions differ between pages, follow the ones on your own order. See our fasting guide for more.

What a result can and can’t tell you

A testosterone test on its own can’t diagnose a condition. MedlinePlus says abnormal results together with symptoms may be a sign of a health problem, and that the meaning depends on the type of test, your age, your symptoms and other results. If you have questions about a result, talk to your clinician.
